Dangerous World Record Dive

This is the dive that finally broke Dana Kunze’s record. And the one that nearly broke Olivier Favre’s back. Sure, it appears to lack the degree of difficulty present in Kunze’s reverse triple backflip, but Favre’s 177-foot dive holds decades later as the highest dive ever successfully attempted.

Of course, the definition of “successful” is debatable in this now out-of-fashion amphibious sport — Favre does not swim away on his own after hitting the water. But he didn’t tape his legs together, either, as Kunze had done to prevent an awkward, potentially deadly landing.

Let’s call it a tie between the two high divers, and hope a modern extreme athlete takes up the sport and pushes the record even higher.
