Martyn Ashton’s Road Bike Party

Martyn Ashton is a mountain biking legend, inducted into Mountain Biking UK magazine’s Hall of Fame in 2008 for his various records and championship wins. In the video above, however, Ashton demonstrates he can handle a road bike like an Adrenalist as well.

The short film, entitled “Road Bike Party” is brought to you by Robert Kitchin, with Ashton producing the footage. Ashton is riding a carbon road bike version of the “Pinarella Dogma 2″, used by English Team Sky riders, Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins, the latter of whom won the 2012 Tour de France. So, you could say the bike itself is almost as epic as Ashton’s talent. But wow does Ashton have some talent.

Watch as he rides on the narrow ledges of a bridge overpass, bikes from the top of an airplane back to the ground, hops from bike holder to bike holder without once touching the ground or tipping over, flips over a sand trap on a golf course and blazes through water hazards. He also performs tricks in a graffiti-lined skateboarding pool where he actually uses a skateboard for his back wheel at one point, takes on rock outcroppings by the sea, bounces off walls and over stairs and incorporates various scenes from his native England into the show.

This is not the usual road bike party, but we’ll gladly accept an invitation to Ashton’s next one.
