For the National Parks Epic Challenge, legendary climber Alex Honnold took on Half Dome, El Capitan and Mount Watkins – all that Yosemite had to offer.

Honnold has traveled all over the world in search of the most perfect walls to climb. The irony, however, is that the best he has found are a mere three hours away from his childhood home in California. When asked to describe his time on Yosemite’s peaks, he simply says that climbing there is “a powerful experience.” Honnold took on Yosemite’s Half Dome, El Capitan and Mount Watkins without a rope in the National Park Foundation‘s National Park Epic Challenge.

Since he was a toddler, he has visited Yosemite almost every season. His experiences in the park consist of everything from recreational camping to dedicated outdoor adventuring. Seeking out the most remote walls and really exploring the park is now his all-time favorite pastime.

To Honnold, Yosemite has the most inspiring walls in the U.S., and it’s easy to see why.
