The Kayak Session short film awards shows how kayaking seamlessly blends adventure and extreme into one, perfect sport.

At the Kayak Session short film awards, droplets glisten in the sun, whitewater swirls in slow-mo and, if you’re watching from the comfort of your home, you can soak in the thrill without getting wet. If you’ve never made a kayaking video before, maybe now is the time: the Kayak Session short film awards are now open for submissions.

If you’re going to compete, make sure your film follows the rules: videos must be under 5 minutes and can’t use copyrighted music. You better be willing to promote it once you’ve submitted your video, too. Views account for half of your video’s score, with the other half determined by a panel of judges.

In November, a winner will be chosen. First place takes home $5,000 cash. Second place receives $2,500 and third receives $1,000.

Check out the video entries as they pile up for 2013, including “High Atlas Kayaking,” a video about a crew exploring Morocco for first descents, and “Wild and Hidden Places,” a video filmed off the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island. If you need more inspiration, get hyped by watching the video above of the 2012 finalists, or these awesome GoPro kayaking videos.

Submit videos now until September 15th. The sooner you can submit your video, the better. The earlier you start, the more time you’ll have to rack up views and take home the prize.
