In May, extreme athlete Dan Martin will begin to swim across the Atlantic Ocean.

That’s a 3,600-mile swim, and it’s only the first leg of his planned attempt to circumnavigate the globe by swimming, cycling and running.

Martin, 28, will depart New York City with intentions to climb ashore in France after the estimated 4-month long transatlantic swim. Then, he’ll set out to cycle across Europe and Asia, cross the Bering Strait and run from Alaska to New York.

His epic endurance challenge will conclude in dramatic fashion, with the New York City Marathon in Fall 2013.

One can’t help but wonder what kind of shoes he wears.
