What Is The Gravity Adventure Festival?

Let us travel to the heart of South Africa’s Cape Floral Kingdom, where the Gravity Adventure Festival will be unfolding amid the dazzling surroundings of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. Kicking off today and running until August 19, this rainbow nation fest weaves together a wealth of adventure sports. Think everything from kayaking to rock climbing to whitewater rafting.

The hub is the Palmiet River, whose waterfall provides a spectacular backdrop to events like the Downriver Kayak Race and the Downriver Croc Race. Then there is the Second Skins Rocky River Mile Swim, which the organizers say, “puts an adventurous spin on the standard long distance Swimmers Mile”. During Second Skins, competitors swim through rapids into the estuary before continuing to the finish line — proving that the festival revolves around buoyancy just as much as gravity.

The diversity of the event truly defines it. Just look at the Mountain Runner Black Diamond Night Run: “a great opportunity to get out your headlamps and have fun in the dark”. Plus, you get a chance to take in the stars and the night sounds of the South African bush as you pound through the shrubland known as “fynbos”.

We can’t think of a more adrenaline-fueled way to enjoy the great outdoors.
