It takes a courageous disposition to perform high-speed aerial gymnastics from the cushioned seat of a motorbike, but that’s motocross for you. Most of us are content to sit and watch gleefully from the sidelines, but those who actually participate in the extreme sport put a lot of thought into what they’ll be riding.

EV Drive has a new option for the more environmentally conscious motocross competitors, the electric-powered bike.

The not-yet-released ride is a second-generation attempt at the converted Honda bike, with a liquid-cooled controller and a 60 kW brushless motor, capable of cranking out speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

Racers can expect to get an hour or two of use out of a single charge, and they can also expect to have fewer maintenance headaches. The bike isn’t available yet, but you can put down a refundable $100 deposit now toward the expected $13,700 asking price.
