V8 supercar Vs airplane: Jamie Whincup races against plane

Pitting an airplane against a car in a contest of speed might seem unfair, but Jamie Whincup’s V8 supercar gave the Red Bull aerobatic plane a run for its money.

Whincup, an Australian auto racing driver who competes in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, had a good feeling about the race. He is a four-time V8 supercar champion and four-time Bathurst 1000 winner. The location of the contest was the legendary beach resort town of Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia.

As soon as the race starts, the plane’s shadow cut a contrast against the sand, banking low over the shallows, almost skimming the froth with its wingtip. Undaunted, Whincup gunned his high-performance supercar, but the aircraft gained ground on the supercar and promptly burst ahead.

Perhaps in a few more years, with a few more horses under the hood, Whincup will be able to dominate both the land and the sky.
