Bringing Some Style to Sochi in 2014

The Winter Olympics are about to get pumped up with a fresh injection of epic air.

The International Olympic Committee on Monday (July 4) agreed to introduce men’s and women’s snowboarding slopestyle to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Like half pipe -the first snowboard event introduced in 1998 – slopestyle is all about amplitude and spin. But slopestyle tosses in gaps and rails and it encourages riders to find creative ways to carve up a terrain park littered with thrills.

Shaun White, winner of halfpipe gold at the 2006 and 2010 games, has already said he’ll compete in slopestyle in 2014. Don’t be surprised to see the kid (he’ll be 27) pull off a 1440 at the event. But will someone stomp down a 1620? We’ll have to wait to find out.
