Debunking The Sympathy Vote

If you thought you needed legs to kickflip, think again.

You’ve met Italo Romano before. The 24 year old who lost his legs while playing on a moving train more than a decade ago. Today, he’s known throughout Brazil as the guy who can, well, just check out the video above. And now the world is catching onto his talent.

This past weekend Romano made it all the way to the semifinals of the Tampa Pro — an event stacked with names like Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, Greg Lutzka and eventual winner Tory Pudwill.

And Romero didn’t make it that far via the sympathy vote. He’s got a bag of tricks no other rider can pull off and a style that’s all his own.

How many pro skaters can say that about themselves?
