We gave you the heads up about National Geographic’s global photo contest. Now we give you the winner.
“Splashing,” photographed by Shikhei Goh in Indonesia’s Riau Islands, was chosen grand prize winner from more than 20,000 submissions snapped by pro and amateur photographers in more than 130 countries.
“You can almost feel the dragonfly’s experience of bracing itself against the weather,” says judge Amy Toensing, one of three National Geographic photographers who pored through the contenders and picked the winner.
Goh will have his photo published in an upcoming issue of Nat Geo and receive $10,000 for taking home top prize. You can check out more of his up-close and colorful nature photos here, or discover the Nat Geo runners-up at the official contest site.
