The Man Who Can Fly

OK, Dean Potter can’t fly. But the legendary thrill seeker has probably come closer to defying gravity than any other human not strapped to a jetpack.

In 2009, he BASE jumped from the top of Eiger in a wingsuit. The jump was the highest (9,000 feet), farthest (3.4 miles) and longest (nearly 3 minutes) BASE flight ever performed.

Of course, Potter is famous (and infamous) for more than his wingsuiting. You might call him a multidisciplinary adventure savant. And now the National Geographic channel is giving him his long-deserved high-definition due.

Explorer: The Man Who Can Fly premiered on the National Geographic Channel Sunday, February 12 at 8pm eastern and pacific. The trailer is available on the National Geographic YouTube channel.
