New sport alert.

Ice cross downhill is exactly what it sounds like: Strap 4 men into hockey skates at the start of a 350-meter-long downhill course and let gravity do the rest.

The first major ice cross event took place in 2001 through the fish market in Stockholm, Sweden. Today, the sport is sponsored by Red Bull, and the 2012 season is already 3/4 complete.

Canadian Kyle Croxall sits atop the leaderboard after winning the first two stops on the Red Bull: Crashed Ice tour. The third, which took place in Are, Sweden on Feb. 16-18, was won by another Canadian, a 25-year-old firefighter named Adam Horst.

The next and final race takes place on a 500-meter-long track in Quebec City, Canada on March 15-17. Check out the official site for details.
