Fresh from hosting the biggest sports event of the year, London has another epic event lined up: the London Triathlon. The event touted as the world’s largest triathlon is slated for September 22 and 23. Luring weekend warriors and top-tier endurance athletes, it racks up some 10,000 competitors and 30,000 spectators who flock to the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London’s Docklands.

“The opportunity to cycle through the closed roads of London via the 02 arena, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye make it a unique event for all involved,” the organizers say. There are a range of endurance races to choose from: think Olympic Team-Relay, Sprint and Olympic Distance, among other options. Then there is Super Sprint, which is tougher than it sounds — featuring a 400m swim, a 10km bike ride and a 2.5km run.

Tempted to have a crack at one of the races? The experts would tell you to go for it: German Triathlon Magazine voted the event one of 2010’s must-do triathlons.
