Star Skier’s Tragic Death
On Saturday, March 10, while competing at a World Cup event in Grindelwald, Switzerland, 29-year-old Canadian skicross racer Nick Zoricic succumbed to severe neurotrauma, according to the International Ski Federation.
Zoricic, who finished 8th in the 2011 World Championships in Utah, was near the finish line in his 36th professional event when he overshot a jump and fell hard into safety netting off the main run of the course.
Zoricic is this year’s second Canadian Ski Team athlete to die while competing. In January, freestyle skier Sarah Burke suffered fatal brain damage after a half-pipe crash. She was also 29.
We at The Adrenalist express our most sincere condolences to Nick’s family and friends.
