Behold: The Eurasian Eagle-Owl — one of the most breathtaking birds of prey on the planet.

With a wingspan that can reach 6 feet, Bubo bubo stalks the skies from the western edge of Portugal across the forests of Kazakhstan to the Russian shores at the Sea of Okhotsk.

The bird is known to eat virtually anything that moves, including small mammals like voles, rats, mice and hares, but also larger animals like foxes and young deer. Humans are encouraged to keep small children far away from the Eurasian Eagle-Owl.

In this video, dug up by Adventure Journal and captured at 1,000 frames per second, an eagle-owl swoops upon an unsuspecting chicken leg.

This is one meal that never had a fighting chance.
